In northern KY, south of Covington; established Dec 4, 1787 from Campbell and Bracken counties. Name Origin: For Edmund Pendleton (1721-1803), member of the Continental Congress (1774-75), active in establishment of state of VA, and president of the VA supreme court of appeals (1779-1803).

Area (sq mi): 281.87 (land 280.54; water 1.33). Pop per sq mi: 53.90.
Pop 2005: 15,125. State rank: 76. Pop change: 2000-20005 5.10%; 1990-2000 19.60%. Pop 2000: 14,390 (White 98.10%; Black or African American 0.50%; Hispanic or Latino 0.70%; Asian 0.10%; Other 1.00%). Foreign born: 0.50%. Median age: 34.50.

In eastern panhandle of WV; organized Dec 4, 1788 from Hardy County (WV) and Augusta and Rockingham counties (in VA). Name Origin: For Edmund Pendleton (1721-1803), VA House of Burgesses (1752-54), VA House of Delegates (1776-77), and presiding judge of VA court of appeals (1779).

Area (sq mi): 698.15 (land 697.87; water 0.28). Pop per sq mi: 11.20.
Pop 2005: 7,844. State rank: 49. Pop change: 2000-20005 -4.30%; 1990-2000 1.80%. Pop 2000: 8,196 (White 95.80%; Black or African American 2.10%; Hispanic or Latino 0.90%; Asian 0.20%; Other 1.40%). Foreign born: 0.70%. Median age: 41.10.
