pendulum level [′pen·jə·ləm ‚lev·əl]
(engineering) A leveling instrument in which the line of sight is automatically kept horizontal by a built-in pendulum device (such as a horizontal arm and a plumb line at right angles to the arm). plumb level, pendulum level A level consisting of a bar and a plumb line; the bar is set in true horizontal position by placing it at a right angle to the plumb line.
