(organic chemistry)
CCl2CCl2Stable, colorless liquid, boiling at 121°C; nonflammable and nonexplosive, with low toxicity; used as a dry-cleaning and industrial solvent, in pharmaceuticals and medicine, and for metal cleaning. Also known as tetrachloroethylene.

Byline: ANI Washington, Sept 24 (ANI): Expectant mothers exposed to drinking water contaminated with tetrachloroethylene or perchlorethylene (PCE) are likely to give birth to kids with congenital defects, according to a new study.
Rogers and Co-Authors, 1997 In Woburn, Massachusetts, the water from the incriminating wells (named wells G and H) contained arsenic, chromium, trichloroethylene, perchlorethylene, and additional solvents.
These solvents were replaced by perchlorethylene (perc), which was not only non-flammable and non-combustible but was also of relatively low toxicity and can be efficiently reused and recycled and did a better job of cleaning.
