Pereira (pārā`rä), city (1993 pop. 348,023), capital of Risaralda dept., W central Colombia, in the upper Cauca valley. It is a major distribution center for coffee and cattle and has a small textile industry. PereiraCity (pop., 1999 est.: 381,725), west-central Colombia. It is in the western foothills of the Cordillera Central of the Andes Mountains above the Cauca River valley. Founded in 1863 on the former site of Cartago, it is a centre for coffee production and cattle raising and has some light manufacturing. |
