Pereterskii, Ivan Sergeevich 

Born Apr. 15 (27), 1889; died May 20, 1956, in Moscow. Soviet jurist and diplomat. Doctor of juridical sciences (1939).

Pereterskii became a professor in 1923, and from 1924 to 1955 he taught at the Moscow Institute of Law and in the department of law at Moscow State University. Between 1943 and 1947 he was first an expert consultant and later deputy chief of the contract law administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR; he was then a counselor of the ministry from 1947 to 1955. His chief works dealt with the history of law, Roman law, Soviet and foreign civil law, air law, public and private international law, and other fields. Pereterskii was one of the founders of the Soviet doctrine of private international law.
