Peretts, Vladimir Nikolaevich 

Born Jan. 19 (31), 1870, in St. Petersburg; died Sept. 24, 1935, in Saratov. Soviet literary critic; academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1914) and the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (1919).

Peretts graduated from the University of St. Petersburg in 1893. His works dealt with general problems of literary criticism, the interrelations between literature and folklore, the connections between Russian and Ukrainian literature, and the history of the folk theater in the 17th and 18th centuries. His interests extended also to archaeography and textual criticism.
