On the northwestern border of SD; organized Feb 26, 1909 from Harding and Butte counties. Name Origin: For Henry E.Perkins, state senator who helped pass the act that established the county.

In west-central NE, west of North Platte; organized Nov 8, 1887 from Keith County. Name Origin: For Charles Elliott Perkins (1807-1907), president of the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad. Locally it is also said to be for Joseph Perkins, an early resident.
