Permiak, Evgenii Andreevich 

Born Oct. 18 (31), 1902, in Perm’. Soviet Russian writer.

Permiak graduated from the pedagogical department of the University of Perm’ in 1930. He was first published in 1924. In the 1930’s he wrote plays, including The Forest Is Astir (1937) and The Shoal (1939). He is the author of collections of fairy tales and popular science books for children and adolescents that assert the great importance of work. Examples include What Shall I Be? (1946), Grandfather’s Money Box (1957), From the Fire to the Pot (1959), and A Lock Without a Key (1962). Permiak repeats this theme in his novels The Tale of the Gray Wolf (1960), The Last Frosts (1962), The Humpbacked Bear (1965), and The Kingdom of Quiet Luton’ (1970). His books have been translated into foreign languages. Permiak has been awarded two orders and a number of medals.
