In west-central NV northeast of Reno; organized Mar 18, 1919 from Humboldt County. Name Origin: For Gen. John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing (1860-1948), an officer who served in Cuba, the Philippines, and Manchuria; commander in chief of the American Expeditionary Force (1917-18) during WWI, and U.S. army chief of staff (1921-24).

Area (sq mi): 6067.55 (land 6036.56; water 30.99). Pop per sq mi: 1.10.
Pop 2005: 6,360. State rank: 11. Pop change: 2000-20005 -5.00%; 1990-2000 54.40%. Pop 2000: 6,693 (White 69.70%; Black or African American 5.30%; Hispanic or Latino 19.30%; Asian 0.60%; Other 16.30%). Foreign born: 7.00%. Median age: 34.40.
Income 2000: per capita $16,589; median household $40,670; Pop below poverty level: 11.40%. *Personal per capita income 2000-2003: $16,892-$16,737.
Unemployment 2004: 4.70%. Change from 2000: 0.00%. Median travel time to work: 22.80 minutes. Working outside county of residence: 25.60%.

OTC BB: PIED) today announced that drilling has begun at the Trinity Silver property in Pershing County, Nevada.
HuntMountain Resources (OTCBB: HNTM) has received the assay results from core holes drilled on its Dun Glen Gold property in Pershing County, Nevada during the fourth quarter of 2006.
The Trinity Silver property is located about 16 miles northwest of the town of Lovelock in Pershing County, Nevada, and about 25 miles northwest of the Rochester Silver Mine, one of the largest silver mines in the US.
