Petroşani 

(also Petroşeni), a city in central Rumania, in Hunedoara District. Population, 39,700 (1970). Center of the cluster of mining cities and settlements in the Petroşani coal basin in the Jiu River valley; these settlements have a total population of 141,700. Petroşani’s industries include sawmilling, the manufacture of construction materials and mining equipment, and food processing. The city also has a mining institute and a state theater.

There, in 1998, First Division outfit Jiul Petrosani were short on cash so sold midfielder Ion Radu for two tons of beef and pork to a Second Division team on the basis they could sell the meat and pay bills and wages.
Administratively, the localities from Valea Jiului are consisting of other smaller localities: Petrila has as belonging localities Lonea, Cimpa, Jiet, Rascoala and Tirici; Petrosani with the belonging localities Dalja Mare, Dalja Mica, Pestera Bolii, Slatinioara; Lupeni; Aninoasa with the belonging locality Iscroni; Vulcan with the belonging localities Dealul Babii and Paroseni; Uricani with the belonging localities Campul lui Neag and Valea de Brazi (5).
He says top-flight team Jiul Petrosani can have Belgradean if they contribute 163,000 euros (pounds 110,000) towards the supply line.
