Only minimal intracranial extension just anterior to the petrous temporal bone was seen.
In one of these cases, the lesion extended through the sphenoid sinus into both pterygoid recesses, invaded the cavernous sinus, and involved the floor of the sella, the clivus, the petrous temporal bone, and the mastoid.
CT also suggested the early stage of erosion of the superior margin of the petrous temporal bone anteriorly, just in front of the middle ear.
