Imaging revealed no evidence of petrous temporal bone apex involvement, nor did genetic studies demonstrate the yon Hippel-Lindau mutation.
Only minimal intracranial extension just anterior to the petrous temporal bone was seen.
In one of these cases, the lesion extended through the sphenoid sinus into both pterygoid recesses, invaded the cavernous sinus, and involved the floor of the sella, the clivus, the petrous temporal bone, and the mastoid.
