Petrov, Anatolii Aleksandrovich 

Born Mar. 13 (26), 1913, in Livny, in what is now Orlov Oblast. Soviet organic chemist. Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1966). Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1964). Member of the CPSU since 1968.

After graduating from the University of Voronezh (1934), Petrov remained there as a staff member. From 1941 to 1945 he was a professor at the Voronezh Aviation Institute and then at the Leningrad Institute for Aviation Instrument-making. Since 1951 he has been a professor and head of a subdepartment at the Lensovet Leningrad Institute of Technology.

Petrov’s main works are devoted to studies of the relationship between the structure, physical properties, and reactivity of di-ene, enine, and diine compounds, including hetero-organic compounds, as well as research on telomerization reactions of unsaturated compounds and the chemistry of epoxides. Petrov has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three other orders, and several medals.
