Petrov, Viacheslav Viacheslavovich 

Born Sept. 9 (22), 1912, in the village of Il’inskoe, in what is now Gorky Oblast. Soviet scientist; specialist in the theory of automatic control and automation systems. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1972). Member of the CPSU since 1952.

After graduation from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1935, Petrov worked at various aircraft plants from 1935 to 1943. He did scientific work at the Institute of Automation and Telemechanics (now the Institute of Problems of Control) from 1943 to 1957 and at the Central Scientific Research Institute of Integrated Automation from 1957 to 1960. Since 1960 he has been a department head at the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Institute of Aviation, where he became a professor in 1959. Petrov’s main works have dealt with the theory of nonlinear automatic control systems, the general theory of nonlinear servomechanisms as applied to aircraft control surface systems, and information theory for control and measuring systems.

Petrov received the State Prize of the USSR in 1972. He has also been awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and various medals.
