Petrovskii, Guru Timofeevich 

Born Aug. 5, 1931, in Leningrad. Soviet physical chemist and production engineer. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1967.

Petrovskii graduated from the Lensovet Leningrad Technological Institute in 1955. In 1959 he joined the staff of the S. I. Vavilov State Optical Institute, of which he became deputy director in 1969. Petrovskii’s principal works deal with the properties and production technology of such optical materials as beryllium fluoride glasses; he discovered the anionic conductivity of fluoride glass dielectrics.

Petrovskii has received the State Prize of the USSR and has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
