Phanerozoic EonSpan of geologic time from c. 543 million years ago, the end of the Proterozoic Eon, to the present. The Phanerozoic, the eon of visible life, is divided into three major eras: the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic. Although life originated in Precambrian time, it was in the Phanerozoic that many forms arose and evolved. The Earth gradually assumed its present configuration and physical features through such processes as plate tectonics, mountain building, and glaciation. Phanerozoic Eon a major interval of time, encompassing the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic eras of the earth’s geologic history. The total duration of the Phanerozoic eon was 570 million years. The eon was delineated in 1930 by the American geologist G. Chadwick, who divided all of geologic history into the Cryptozoic and Phanerozoic eons. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
