    0.06 sec.

Philip, Saint, one of the Twelve Apostles

Philip, Saint, one of the Twelve Apostles. Like Peter and Andrew, he came from Bethsaida in Galilee. He is mentioned several times in the New Testament (Mat. 10.3; John 1.43–51; 6.5,7; 12.21,22; 14.8,9; Acts 1.13). Philip is said to have been martyred at Hierapolis of Phrygia. He is sometimes confused with St. Philip the Evangelist. Feast (with St. James the Less): May 1.

Philip, Saint, one of the seven deacons chosen by the Twelve Apostles

Philip, Saint, one of the seven deacons chosen by the Twelve Apostles. He is also called St. Philip the Evangelist and St. Philip the Deacon. He evangelized Samaria and later converted an important eunuch of Queen Candace of Ethiopia (Acts 8.25–40). As a forerunner of St. Paul, he did much to bring the Gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 6.5; 21.8–10). Feast: June 6.
