Phillips, James C. (Charles) (1933– ) physicist; born in New Orleans, La. He worked at Bell Telephone Laboratories (1956–58), the University of California: Berkeley (1858–59), Cambridge (1959–60), and Chicago (1960–68), before returning to Bell (1968).
