Philocrates, Peace of

a treaty concluded in 346 B.C. in Pella, Macedonia, by Philip II of Macedon and the Athenians at the end of the Sacred War of 355–346 B.C. The peace derived its name from Philocrates, head of the Athenian embassy and one of the leaders of the Popular Assembly. By the terms of the treaty, the Athenians recognized Philip’s conquests on the Chalcidice peninsula, relinquished all their holdings in Thrace except for Chersonesus Thracica, and entered into an alliance with Macedonia.
