Historians of medicine and philologists have over the years attributed the Cough of Perinthus to diphtheria, influenza, epidemic encephalitis, dengue fever, acute poliomyelitis, and many other diseases.
Beginning with the 10th century, especially in the kingdom of Cordoba under the enlightened Omayyad caliphs Abd al-Rahman and his son, Al-Hakin, there appeared a galaxy of Jewish scholars, historians, philologists, grammarians, religious philosophers, mathematicians, astronomers, doctors and poets.
Culled from a Jimi Hendrix song, the show's title, theskywasfilledwitha1000-starswhilethesunkissedthemountainsblue-and11moonsplayedacrosstherainbows, is what philologists would describe as "non-aerated," referencing both classical texts printed without spacing and, more obviously, the lexicography of the Internet.
