Philosophical Societies and Organizations
The earliest forms of philosophical organization were the schools of philosophy of ancient Greece, such as the Lyceum and Plato’s Academy, and the faculties of philosophy at medieval universities. During the Renaissance, a particular circle of humanists would form its own academy—for example, the Platonic Academy in Florence. The national academies of modern times have their own divisions of philosophy; moreover, various schools of philosophy arose in the process of international communication among scholars, and special philosophical societies and organizations were formed. In Russia, there was a philosophical society at the University of St. Petersburg. A list of philosophical societies and organizations follows. International Hegel Society (Nuremberg, Federal Republic of Germany) International Association of Philosophy, Arts, and Sciences (Bologna, Italy) International Council for Philosophy and Humanistic Studies (Paris) International Institute of Philosophy (Paris) International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science (London) Argentina National Academy of Law and Social Sciences Australia Australasian Association of Philosophy Australian Academy of the Humanities, section for philosophy Austria Academic Society for Philosophy, Psychology, and Psychotherapy Austrian Academy of Sciences, section for philosophy and historical sciences Society for Ethical Culture Belgium Belgian Center Teilhard de Chardin Belgian Society of Logic and Philosophy of Science Belgian Society of Philosophy Catholic University of Louvain, Institute of Philosophy Philosophical Society of Louvain Brazil Brazilian Philosophical Society Neo-Pythagorean Institute Bulgaria Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy Canada Canadian Philosophical Association Royal Society of Canada, sections (French and English) for humanities and social sciences Czechoslovakia Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology Slovak Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology (Bratislava) Denmark The Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, section for history and philosophy Federal Republic of Germany Academy of Sciences and Literature, section for philosophy and social science Kant Society Leibniz Society Schopenhauer Society Philosophical Society of Germany Society for the History of Ideas France Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, section for philosophy Center for Marxist Studies French Society of Philosophy National Center for Scientific Studies, Center for the Humanities German Democratic Republic GDR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy Great Britain British Academy, section for philosophy British Society of Aesthetics British Society for the Philosophy of Science The Philosophical Society of England Royal Institute of Philosophy Verulam Institute Hungary Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy India Indian Institute of Philosophy Yoga Institute Italy Higher Center for Logic and Comparative Science Italian Philosophical Society National Academy, section for philosophical sciences University of Rome, Institute of Philosophical Studies Mexico National Autonomous University of Mexico, Institute of Philosophical Research The Netherlands General Netherlands Philosophical Society Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, section for history and philosophy Poland Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology Polish Philosophical Society Rumania Academy of the Socialist Republic of Rumania, Institute of Philosophy Spain Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences Switzerland Swiss Philosophical Society Swiss Society of Human Sciences USSR Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Institute of Philosophy Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Institute of History of Natural Science and Engineering Academy of Social Sciences Attached to the Central Committee of the CPSU Philosophical Society of the USSR Union Republics Armenian SSR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Law Azerbaijan SSR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Law Byelorussian SSR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Law Estonian SSR Academy of Sciences, philosophy section Georgian SSR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy Kazakh SSR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Law Kirghiz SSR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Law Latvian SSR Academy of Sciences, philosophy section Lithuanian SSR Academy of Sciences, philosophy and law department Moldavian SSR Academy of Sciences, philosophy and law department Tadzhik SSR Academy of Sciences, philosophy and law department Turkmen SSR Academy of Sciences, philosophy section Ukrainian SSR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy Uzbek SSR Academy of Sciences, Institute of Philosophy and Law USA American Catholic Philosophical Association American Philosophical Association American Philosophical Society American Society for Aesthetics Association for Symbolic Logic Center for the Philosophy of Science Charles S.
