photodiodeA light sensor (photodetector) that allows current to flow in one direction from one side to the other when it absorbs photons (light). The more light, the more the current. Used to detect light pulses in optical fibers and other light-sensitive applications, it works the opposite of a light emitting diode (see LED). The photodiode detects light and creates a conductive path that allows electricity to flow. The LED receives electricity and emits light. photodiode [¦fōd·ō′dī‚ōd] (electronics) A semiconductor diode in which the reverse current varies with illumination; examples include the alloy-junction photocell and the grown-junction photocell. Also known as photoconductor diode. How to thank TFD for its existence? Tell a friend about us, add a link to this page, add the site to iGoogle, or visit webmaster's page for free fun content. |

| In a Combo OPU, this second laser diode needs to be a higher power device to support writing, and the laser driver and photo diode array must be redesigned to support the write function. Forza Silicon designs custom CMOS image sensors, which comprises Tower's Advanced Photo Diode (APD) pixel IP, and utilizes its Fab2, 0. The new CIS chip uses Samsung's proprietary 90nm copper technology that reduces the distance between the micro-lens to the photo diode thereby resulting in maximizing the light-gathering efficiency to overcome the potential decline of image quality as the pixel size scales down. |
