Phoxinus

Phoxinus 

a genus of freshwater fish of the Cyprinidae family.

The body length of Phoxinus does not exceed 20 cm. The scales are small. There are about 10 species, found in the rivers of Europe, Asia, and North America. The coloring of the minnow, P. phoxinus, is very bright during spawning. Other species of Phoxinus are found in small rivers, irrigation ditches, swamp springs, and lakes. P. percnurus(length, to 15 cm; weight, to 100 g) is important commercially in Yakutia.
