Name Origin: For either James A. Piatt, Sr. (1789-1838), an early settler, or Benjamin Piatt, attorney general of IL Territory (1810-13). Area (sq mi): 440.33 (land 440.02; water 0.31). Pop per sq mi: 37.90. Pop 2005: 16,680. State rank: 69. Pop change: 2000-20005 1.90%; 1990-2000 5.30%.
