He describes the Piedmont Plateau, the Tidewater, the merchants' and planters' estates, the truck farmers and rural villages that slowly became absorbed into what was becoming a city while retaining their country character, the churches that became hubs and the ability of certain areas at certain times to retain or create a unique sense of place and purpose.
The highlands of Alabama consists of the following Provinces: Interior Low Plateau (Highland Rim), Appalachian Plateau (Cumberland Plateau), Ridge and Valley, and Piedmont Plateau (Figure 2).
We attacked the terrain, tearing maps apart along the Fall Line, which divides Piedmont plateau from coastal plain, and on the fault line that separates it from the Blue Ridge escarpment.
