Pigafetta, Antonio Francesco 

Born circa 1491 in Vicenza; died there after 1534. Italian navigator; member of the Magellan-Elcano expedition of 1519-22.

During the first circumnavigation of the world, Pigafetta kept diaries which he delivered to Emperor Charles V but which have since been lost. He compiled a brief account of the voyage accompanied by a map of Patogonia and the Strait of Magellan.
