Any of a group of volatile essential oils with pinaceous aromas distilled from cones, needles, or stumps of various pine or other conifer species; used as solvents, emulsifying agents, wetting agents, deodorants, germicides, and sources of chemicals.

A strong, high-boiling-point solvent obtained from the resin of pine trees; used in paint to provide good flow properties in application.

Pine Oil

an essential oil obtained from branches of the Scotch pine (Pinus silvestris L.) by steam distillation. Pine oil, a yellowgreen liquid with the scent of pine needles, has a density of 0.880–0.920 g/cm³ (at 20°C). It is insoluble in water but soluble (1:5) in 90 percent ethanol. Pine oil mainly contains terpenes (up to 50 percent piñenes) and bornyl acetate. It is used to scent soap, pine extracts for baths, deodorants, and various other household products.
