Pingtung

Pingtung or P'ing-tung (both: pĭng`dng`), town (1995 pop. 215,096), S Taiwan. Located in an agricultural area, Pingtung produces metals, machinery, chemicals, and alcoholic beverages, and is a major sugar-refining center. A large military base is nearby.
