Pir Panjal

a mountain range in the western Himalayas, in northwestern India, with spurs in Pakistan. It extends from northwest to southeast for 450 km, from the Kishanganga River to the Beas River. The maximum height is 6,028 m. The Pir Panjal is composed of limestone, andesite, and basalt. Its slopes are steep and strongly dissected by canyons, and its crests are sharply indented. There are numerous glacial lakes and corrie glaciers. Dense, mainly coniferous, forests predominate. The Vale of Kashmir separates the mountain range from the Greater Himalayas.
