Pirveli-Dasi
(First Group), a social and literary current in the national liberation movement in Georgia from the 1860’s to the 1880’s. The intellectual leader of Pirveli-Dasi was I. G. Chavchavadze; associated with him were A. Tsereteli, N. Nikoladze, la. Gogebashvili, and, later on, Vazha Pshavela and A. Kazbegi. In 1863, Pirveli-Dasi published the journal Sakartvelos moambe (Herald of Georgia); in 1877 the group founded the newspaper Iveriia. Followers of Pirveli-Dasi opposed serfdom and its vestiges and stood for the social and national liberation of Georgia. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
