Piscator, Nicolas Joannis

(also Claes Jansz Visscher the Younger). Born circa 1586, in Amsterdam; died there June 19, 1652. Dutch publisher and engraver.

Piscator’s publications include a map of Muscovy (1631) and the Theatrum biblicum (1650 and other editions), a Bible with engravings based on the drawings of Dutch artists. In the second half of the 17th century and the early 18th, Russian and Ukrainian engravings and wall paintings used the Theatrum biblicum as an iconographie source and textbook.
