It operates campuses at Johnstown (1927), Greensburg (1963), and Bradford (1963) as well. There are centers for social and urban research and for international studies.

The modern Internet also gained support in 1985 when the National Science Foundation formed the NSFNET, linking five supercomputer centers at Princeton University, Pittsburgh, University of California at San Diego, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Cornell University.

The EECP system is now in use at major medical centers, including those affiliated with Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh, University of California San Diego, University of California San Francisco and the University of Virginia, as well as the Miami Heart Institute and The Mayo Clinic.
