Arbitrary designation of certain compounds as closed, circular structures, as in the six-carbon benzene ring; common rings have four, five, and six members, either carbon or some combination of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, or other elements.

A newly discovered planetary ring can run circles around all the others.
Until now, the champion planetary rings in the Solar System were so-called "gossamer rings" surrounding Jupiter, the Solar System's largest planet, and Saturn's E ring.
The four-wheel-drive models feature a two-speed transfer case with a Torsen limited-slip differential that feature a six-gear planetary ring rather than the four-gear arrangement that's more common.
