plastic pipe

plastic pipe
Pipe formed from a material that contains one or more organic polymeric substances. Advantages may include: low initial cost, light weight, high flexibility, good corrosion resistance, and availability in long lengths. Disadvantages generally include: poor fire resistance, production of toxic gas upon combustion of some types of plastics, poor resistance to solvents, low pressure ratings at high temperatures, and (in some plastics) the susceptibility to change as a result of prolonged exposure to sunlight.

The good news is that we will be using modern technology to reduce the number of excavations we need to complete the work and our new plastic pipes are more durable and flexible and have a lifespan of at least 80 years.
Work has started in the shopping area in Baker Street and Corporation Road where about 600m of old cast iron gas pipe will be replaced with modern plastic pipe.
Around 500 metres of old metal mains in Moor Road North is being replaced with modern plastic pipe, to ensure the safety and reliability of gas supplies in the area for decades to come.
