the process of converting plastics into melts to facilitate their processing into finished articles. Plasticization takes place upon an increase in the temperature of the material as a result of heat transfer from external heaters or heat evolution caused by friction. In contrast to the breakdown of rubbers, plasticization of plastics is performed under conditions that preclude noticeable degradation of polymers.
