Pleshakov, Petr Stepanovich 

Born July 13, 1922, in the village of Krasnyi Oktiabr’, Umet Raion, Tambov Oblast. Soviet state figure. Member of the CPSU since 1944.

The son of a peasant, Pleshakov graduated from the Moscow Institute of Communication Engineering in 1944. He served in the Soviet Army from 1944 to 1952 and took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. Between 1952 and 1964 he was affiliated with a scientific research institute, holding successively the positions of laboratory head, department head, and director. He served as deputy chairman of the State Committee on Radio Electronics of the Council of Ministers of the USSR in 1964 and 1965. Pleshakov was a deputy minister of the Ministry of the Radio Industry of the USSR from 1965 to 1968; he was appointed first deputy minister in 1968 and minister in 1974. He became a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1976 and a member in October 1977.

A deputy to the ninth and tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Pleshakov has received the Lenin Prize and the State Prize of the USSR and has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, two other orders, and various medals.
