Pliev, Gris

Pliev, Gris (Grigorii) Dzambolatovich 

Born Oct. 30, 1913, in the village of Rag, now in Dzhava Raion, Iuzhnaia Osetiia Autonomous Oblast. Soviet Ossetian poet. Member of the CPSU since 1941.

Pliev began publishing in 1930. In 1935 he graduated from the Institute of Theatrical Art in Moscow. He took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–45. Pliev authored such verse collections as In Winged Years (1933), The Soldier (1948), Life and Death (1963), and Seven Circassian Coats (1967) and such dramas in verse as the tragedy Chermen (1949). He has also translated works by Shakespeare, Pushkin, and Lermontov into Ossetic. Pliev has been awarded four orders and several medals.
