Pliocene Series (Epoch)
the upper subdivision of the stratum of rocks of the Neogene system, corresponding to the last epoch of the Neogene period of the earth’s geological history. The Pliocene series encompassed the interval of time between 2 and 7 million years ago. In full sections the layers of the Pliocene series border those of the Miocene below and those of the Pleistocene series of the Anthropogenic system above. The Pliocene was identified by C. Lyell in 1833. Want to thank TFD for its existence? Tell a friend about us, add a link to this page, add the site to iGoogle, or visit the webmaster's page for free fun content. |
