Pliosauroidea
a superfamily of fossil marine reptiles of the suborder Plesiosauria. The Pliosauroidea lived during the late Jurassic period and in the Cretaceous period. The body length reached over 10 m long. The Pliosauroidea were very large and powerful aquatic predators, with large heads and relatively short necks. Remains have been found in deposits on all continents; in the USSR they have been found primarily in Jurassic deposits of the Trans-Volga Region and northwestern Kazakhstan.
