1. of or relating to rainfall or precipitation 2. a climate characterized by persistent heavy rainfall, esp one occurring in unglaciated regions during the Pleistocene epoch pluvial [′plü·vē·əl] (geology) Of a geologic process or feature, effected by rain action. (meteorology) Pertaining to rain, or more broadly, to precipitation, particularly to an abundant amount thereof. Pluvial a prolonged period of wet climate in deserts and semideserts of the subtropical and tropical zones. Pluvials correspond to the glacial ages of the middle and high latitudes of the world.
