Plymouth Rock

a breed of chickens raised for meat and eggs. The Plymouth Rock was developed in the USA in the second half of the 19th century. There are eight varieties, according to the coloration of the plumage. The most widespread are the Barred Plymouth Rock and the White Plymouth Rock. The rooster weighs 3.6–4.3 kg, and the hen 2.7–3.4 kg. Average egg production is 160–170 eggs per year; the eggs weigh 55–60 g each. The Plymouth Rock is found in most countries. In the USSR the meat strains of White Plymouth Rock, of Canadian and Dutch origin, are primarily raised; the hens are crossed with Cornish roosters to produce broilers.
