Poblete de Espinosa, Olga
Born 1908 in Santiago. Chilean public figure. A former professor at the University of Chile in Santiago, Poblete de Espinosa has been active in the Chilean democratic movement since 1935 and was one of the organizers of the Movement for the Emancipation of Women in Chile. She has been a prominent member of the Chilean Peace Movement since its founding in 1950 and has been president since 1960. She is also a member of the World Peace Council and has been the Latin-American secretary of that organization since 1961. Poblete de Espinosa helped organize the Latin-American Conference for National Sovereignty, Economic Emancipation, and Peace (1961), playing a prominent role in the planning and conduct of this conference. She has been awarded the Gold Medal of the World Peace Council (1959) and the International Lenin Prize for Strengthening Peace Among Nations (1962). Want to thank TFD for its existence?
