Podgruzdki

    0.01 sec.
Podgruzdki

the Russian designation for a group of edible hymenomycetous mushrooms of the genus Russula. The most widely distributed and most commonly eaten species is R. delica. The cap, which has a diameter of 7 to 15 cm, initially is flat with a folded-under margin and later becomes more or less funnel-shaped. It is white, as is the entire mushroom, and almost always has particles of soil clinging to it. The gills are thin, and the stalk is short and thick. The flesh, which is white throughout, lacks milky juice and is caustic in the gills. R. delica grows in deciduous and mixed forests, often in large groups. It is edible after salting. R. adusta resembles R. delica, but it is gray-brown and has flesh that darkens when broken. It is edible but is often wormy. The name podgruzdok is often used to designate the rare species Lactarius scrobiculatus.
