Pohang

Pohang (pô`häng`), city (1995 pop. 508,983), North Gyeongsang (Kyongsang) prov., SE South Korea, on Yeongil (Yongil) Bay of the Sea of Japan (or East Sea). A fishing port and agricultural center, the 1970s brought heavy industry to Pohang, such as iron and steel production and shipbuilding.
