Polaris missile [pə′larĀ·əs ′misĀ·əl]
(ordnance)
A U.S. Navy surface-to-surface intermediate-range ballistic missile designed to be launched from submarines and surface ships for accurate bombardment of small target areas with conventional or nuclear warheads at ranges up to 2500 nautical miles (4600 kilometers).
