policy

The rules and regulations set by the organization. Policy determines the type of internal and external information resources employees can access, the kinds of programs they may install on their own computers as well as their authority for reserving network resources. Policy is also related to network quality of service (QoS), because it can define priorities by user, workgroup or application with regard to reserving network bandwidth. Do not mistake me for a monetary Luddite: I have immense appreciation for the intellectual elegance and sophistication of modern monetary policy models that leave no room for money.
Kirk's plans to expand Carl's Cafe will remain on hold as long as this health care policy model is in place.
What is most useful about this book, however, is the combination of an accessible review of the period with a wealth of various insights, not least of which is the authors' refusal to adopt the common posture of criticizing what has happened on the basis of its non-compliance with some given policy model.
