Poltoratskii, Pavel Gerasimovich 

Born 1888 in Novocherkassk; died July 22, 1918, in Merv, now Mary. Participant in the revolutionary movement in Russia; one of the organizers of the struggle for Soviet power in Turkestan. Member of the Communist Party from 1905. Son of a worker.

Poltoratskii was a compositor by profession. He carried on party work in Rostov-on-Don, Baku, and Turkestan. In 1917 he was chairman of the Novaia Bukhara (Kagan) soviet, a delegate to the First All-Russian Congress of Soviets, and one of the organizers of the first detachments of Red Guards in Turkestan. In November 1917, Poltoratskii became people’s commissar of labor and chairman of the Sovnarkhoz (Council of the Economy) of the Turkestan Republic and a member of the Presidium of the Turkestan Central Executive Committee. He was one of the founders and editors of Sovetskii Turkestan, the first Soviet newspaper in Tashkent. During an anti-Soviet revolt, he was seized and shot by White Guards-.
