Poltoratskii, Viktor Vasil’evich
(real surname Poltoratskii-Pogostin). Born Apr. 18 (May 1), 1907, in Ashkhabad. Soviet Russian writer. Member of the CPSU since 1939. Poltoratskii graduated from the pedagogical institute in Yaroslavl in 1933 and then worked on newspapers in the cities of Ivanov and Moscow. He was editor in chief of the newspaper Literatura i zhizn’from 1958 to 1961. His first of several poetry collections, A Word to the Settlement, was published in 1928. Poltoratskii’s impressions of a trip through Europe were the basis of his book of essays On the Road and at Home (1950; State Prize of the USSR, 1952). His works depict the natural surroundings of the Meshchera and Vladimir regions and the life and work of the regions’ people. WORKSStruzhan’: Izbr. stikhotvoreniia.
