Pomeranian Lake Region

Pomeranian Lake Region

(in Polish, Pojezierze Po-morskie), a hilly plain in northwestern Poland, between the lower course of the Oder River on the west and the Vistula River on the east; it is bordered by the Baltic Sea on the north and by the Warta-Noteô pradolina on the south. Mount Wierzyca, the highest elevation, rises to 329 m. The topography was shaped by Pleistocene glaciation, and there are well-defined ridges of recessional moraines. Lakes abound in the intermorainal lowlands. The northern and southern parts of the region have outwash plains. Pine trees have been planted, and there are peat bogs, heaths, and relict oak and beech forests.
