Pontecorvo

Pontecorvo 

an area in southern Italy. Administrative center, the city of Pontecorvo, which was founded circa 886 and now corresponds to the modern commune of the same name.

In the tenth century Pontecorvo became a possession of the Monte Cassino Monastery. It belonged to the Papal States from 1463 to 1860, except for the years 1806 to 1810, when it was the principality of the Napoleonic Marshal J. Bernadotte, and the years 1810 to 1814, when it was a possession of France. In 1860, Pontecorvo was united with the Kingdom of Sardinia.
