Poole, town (1991 pop. 122,815), Dorset, S England, on the north side of Poole Harbour. Poole has shipbuilding, pottery-making, and other industries. It is a naval supply station and a seaplane base with considerable coastal trade. There is also a technical college. Within Poole Harbour, to which boaters are attracted, is Brownsea Island, a bird sanctuary.

Poole 

a city in Great Britain in Dorsetshire, on the English Channel, in the broad bay of Poole Harbor. Population, 111,300 (1971). Poole is a seaport. Shipbuilding and ship repair are important industries, as is the manufacture of dredges and electrical engineering equipment. Located in the city are ceramic and food enterprises. Fishing is carried out. Poole is a center for sailing sports.
